Tea sandwiches – trying to lose weight again!

Well I’ve been thinking about losing weight again now it’s the end of the semester. Thanks to videos I’ve been watching on YouTube (specifically, ochikeron’s videos on cute and simple recipes) I’ve been getting my stomach to eat less so far from just eating tiny and cute portions. I don’t know my weight anymore but I do know my waist size has decreased by one inch (and at my height I at least need to get it down to one more inch. As for my hips, well, gotta do them Brazilian butt lifts. 😛 I might start that after finals week.

There is a slight mistake: forgot to add three baby fingerling potatoes. That changes the caloric value to 381 because I also swapped the mayo with whipped salad dressing. It’s so much easier cooking for just one person!

The cherry tomatoes were boiled in water for a few seconds so I can peel the skin off. Next I placed them in pickling solution consisting of soy sauce, vinegar, sugar and water. I love my condiments to be sour! But the sugar offers a nice balance. 🙂

As soon as my Christmas wish is fulfilled (maybe) in getting a deep fryer, I’ll be making those tiny tea donuts too. Before then, I’ve been craving curry rice when I saw her video and perhaps I’ll make some but with veggies instead.

So I finally got around to purchase the ultra expensive matcha green tea powder. And what did I do with it? Practically wasted two tsp of it. Remind me to NEVER use rice flour (by itself or with something else) to make donuts. I was thinking fluffy and light but I got gritty and dense.

Congee and Furikake

I’m not really picky about what I eat (usually because I’m too lazy to cook most of the time), so I ended up mixing brown rice, quinoa, tofu, and furikake with a splatter of sesame oil, soy sauce, and rice wine vinegar (with a pinch of sugar). Not bad – but definitely not for those picky eaters.

Olympus OM-D E-M5 – First Pics

Well, I have been playing around the photo aspect of my new toy, the Olympus OM-D E-M5. I’ve been getting a feel for the different types of shots I could set up. Everything was semi-new to an amateur photographer like myself. I knew the modes P, A, S, and M because of my 60D, but the SCN, iAuto, and Art modes and their different functions are new to me. I should have kept up more religiously on the camera specs as they were released.

Let me confirm that, yes, there is a humming noise when the camera is on. Just like one user on youtube described it, they could hear the ocean. It’s a sort of white noise that fades into the background. Besides, the digital sound of the shutter is way louder than that.

The 14-42mm kit is okay, but I really wanted the macro function of the 12-50mm lens kit. I know there are better ones out there, but having it on hand when the camera arrived would have been fun. The 14-42mm will not focus nicely onto “in-your-face” objects, so I have to pull back a little and allow it to do its thing.

One of the things I find a little frustrating is the switch from the touch screen back to the EVF. I love the fact that I can touch any part of the screen to focus, but the sensor around the EVF is very sensitive. If you put your finger 1/2″ away from the viewfinder, the screen will switch back to the EVF. It gets to be a problem sometimes when I see a shot, then the touch screen accidentally blacks out because of my fingers.

The 9fps shooting mode was terrific, but I do need more practice in focusing on the subject moving. I need to know how to make it continuously track the subject. This mode helped me capture a lot of moving actions from my dogs which look more intense than when I just used my 60D with a 50mm f1.8 (yes, I have the budget of a college student).

Those are my initial thoughts of the camera. I’ll be updating more as I try to learn the cute little camera. I’ve been trying to sort out which lenses I would need, so if anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment.

It’s taken so long for me to upload these because had disabled my account and the whole thing has been frustrating and didn’t even yield any results. Puckering Over Greek Yogurt


Can someone tell me how to get over the tartness of Greek yogurt?? I’ve had trouble eating yogurt until I started eating Activia, but I’m switching to Greek because it has less sugar. But, please, IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS DELICIOUS, tell me how to get over that tartness!!! Bleeeeeggghhh!

Insanity – Day 11 and Burgers …Again.

Mood: Sluggish

Ugh…it was Cardio Recovery so it was an easy workout, but I easily ruined it with burgers (watched Bob’s Burgers new episode) and open-faced steak sandwiches. These sandwiches the BF made are SO DELICIOUS!

Lunch time!

Okay so this might not look very appetizing to everyone, but when you’re starving, counting down the minutes until lunch break, and hoping no one brings you any work to do, this was my equivalent of eating at Texas de Brazil.

Insanity – Day 8 and Filipino Food at Home

Mood: Bleh

For today’s workout, I was sweating, but I didn’t feel like I was pushing myself. Again, it could be the fact that I wish I could be sleeping for a few more minutes before heading out to work, but hey, it’s a mystery. 😛

I don’t feel as sore as last week, so I should be pushing myself harder. Barely waking up without fuel is an invitation to injury, but I feel that the morning is the only time in which I can work out since I am dead tired by the time I get home (but I do manage to play Tales of Graces for 30 min :P). I know the answer, but too lazy to admit it: sleep earlier (around 8) and wake up early to eat something before working out.

Okay, moving on. Because of the fact that my dad has always been the main chef at our house (more recently than ever before), we eat what he likes. And what he likes is drying up the protein until it’s tough and hard (his way of making it “crispy”), a form of vegetable, dipping sauce, and rice. We never forgo rice.

Here’s the main source of protein:

Roasted chicken kept in the oven for hours until dehydrated and sprinkled with lemon pepper.

I know – it doesn’t even remotely look like anything edible, but I didn’t get to whip out my camera until the end. This roasted chicken my dad bought tasted funny to everyone, so he decided to put that thing in the oven and dry up to get it crunchy. I believe this can be called chicken jerky.

Next up is the vegetable:

Green beans blanched with lemon pepper seasoning.

One other thing that’s in our food is a lot of lemon pepper.

Next is the dipping sauce:

Soy sauce with vinegar.

No lemon pepper seasoning here. lol

And of course, the rice. You can’t have a Filipino dinner without rice:

Rice! Plain white rice.

For days, I’ve been trying to decide what type of foods should I make for myself. It was hard coming up with anything for an idea of a series of foods I wanted to try to make.This frustration created a negative feeling in my chest towards food.

As weird as those pictures may be to some of you, what I just listed above hit the spot with me. Jerky chicken, overcooked green beans – it just satisfied any negative feelings about food. That weird combo  actually hit my soul and left me satisfied. I think this is what constitutes as a comfort meal since my body has been conditioned to this combination.

Stupid Caffeine

Never again will I drink anything caffeinated. I feel like crap afterwards when I crash and even more so when I try to be productive. I sit here staring at my computer screen wishing I could move or do something, but I can’t get my brain to turn on!
