Portrait Silhouette on its way

I know I shouldn’t have done it. I know I’m going to be super busy on my second semester of pharmacy school. I KNOW THIS WILL SUCK MY TIME FROM STUDYING.

But I couldn’t help it. The thought of making my own notebooks and notepads for school was too alluring that I couldn’t resist. Maybe sell some, too? (((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))

To me, motivation to do something means to be inspired by something new. Fresh. And dare I say…cute. And the monotony of having to study (and no, studying something new in school doesn’t count as being inspirational) every day, every hour, etc, would drive me insane.

And so having found absolutely nothing on the Silhouette Portrait (except for arcane techniques on how to cut portrait silhouettes) I’ll be making a series out of this for my own benefit as well as yours if you like seeing my failures during my journey. As Fraisier once said,

It may be an unwise man that doesn’t learn from his own mistakes but it’s an absolute idiot that doesn’t learn from other people’s.

Bored – DIY toothbrush holder

With nothing to do but clean, I got so bored and started to make my own toothbrush holder.

1. I used one of those tags that hold jewelry, a spider ring from Halloween, and my cute toothbrush I got from a Sanrio store.

2. I snipped off the legs since it would be too bulky.

3. After cutting off half of the jewelry tag, slip the ring through the hole and glue both together. I used the E-6000 glue because I don’t think a regular hot glue gun would work. It’s my favorite type if glue from binding books and flashcards together to holding together larger projects.

4. I used Scotch clear mounting squares and placed about two on the back.

5. Place it on the wall.

6. There you go! Done!

Craft Time: Paper Quilling!

I was sitting around work and my hands had the urge to create something. I was browsing through teh internetz and stumbled upon quilling1.

According to Wikipedia, quilling has been around the Renaissance and used in religious art, mostly on books, serving as an imitation to ironwork at the time.

If you search for images of quilling, especially quilled snowflakes, you’ll find a lot of detailed work. That was enough to inspire me to try it.

You really need to be very bored and have lots of patience. It took me 45 min to do and I might have had more control over how the shapes came out if I didn’t use our flimsy printer paper.

Quilling is a neat craft to help express my swirly-loopy urges I get from time to time.

4 days into working out

I’m proud of myself. I’ve been going at it since Sunday, Feb 26 without dreading having to do it. It helps to be motivated, and my motivation happens to be pretty dresses that I can fit into.

I used to like clothes when I was young, then when I was 10 years old I started to hate them since I couldn’t fit into them. Being a 12-year-old girl and finding clothes in the women’s department that could fit my shape did not help my self-esteem. I was doomed to over-sized shirts and started out wearing stretch stirrup pants1 and finally found some petite-sized big pants for myself.

Fast-forward to today – I am almost at my target weight, but that really isn’t of any consequence to me since I’m mostly interested in losing dress-sizes. I tried extreme dieting, but that didn’t help much since I’d bounce back and binge thinking it’d be okay. So, I stayed within +/- 3 lbs for a whole year.

I’ve been enjoying Japanese fashion magazines primarily because their frilly, cute, and street looks have captured my interest far more than what’s considered popular here in the dust bowl. They’ve even inspired me to create my own dream wardrobe I’d love to wear once I’ve shrunk to where I’m supposed to be.

I suppose I still love over-sized shirts that can transform into a dress while you where some sort of pretty leggings underneath. I didn’t know that they’d be popular once I got older. If I had known, I’d dig out those pants!

The other thing I have to remember is the fact that I am getting older. I want to enjoy things I like, and I have to be harder on myself to stay motivated.

Also, one of my other dreams is to be able to create my own brand/label to be sold. I’m pretty mediocre when it comes to arts & crafts since I am on an on-and-off relationship with my tools, so I haven’t really developed them. Plus, I can’t decide what I want to sell. Clothes are the most obvious choice, but I do love to make little doo-dads as well.

Look forward to more dress postings!
